GI Joe

G.I Joe dolls have been produced by Hasbro since the early 1960s. They were created after the licensing agent, Stan Weston cottoned on to the commercial success of Barbie. The first line of G.I Joes had a figure for each of the four U.S Armed Forces including soldiers for the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines.

G.I Joe officially stands for "Government Issue Joe".

Iremember back in the mid 1970s getting the GI Joe with the Kung Fu grip with the beard and the hair that felt real. It was 12 inches or a little taller.

I played with that thing till his arm fell off.

I remember that the UK version of this released in the 80's was called Action Force. I think it was an amalgamation of two different toy lines (the US G.I.Joe 3 1/4 inch figures, and a Brit line that included some strange sci fi elements).

I was too young to get into the orginial GI Joes. However, I had all the smaller GI Joe's and a ton of vehicles. I think I still have the GI Joe the movie VHS around my house somewhere.
