Rubik's Magic
Rubik's Magic : The Rubiks Magic was effectively 8 squares held together with criss-crossed fishing wire, allowing it to be folded back on itself AND to one side. When uncomplete, it had 3 unlinked rings on the front, but when completed the rings were linked. My Dad broke my first one on Boxing day, by twisting it "where he thought it should go." The breaking of my replacement one is a bit of a sore point that I don't want to discuss.... The third one, however, I managed to do over and over again. By the end of my practise, I could do the Rubiks Magic in 1.98 seconds.

The original fiendishly difficult puzzle,
now with solution guide
The original fiendishly difficult puzzle, invented by Erno Rubik in Hungary and one of the biggest toy crazes ever. In 1982 Hawkin's Bazaar was the first to bring a few cases of the Rubik's Cube to England. Unfortunately 25 years ago we were very small and it wasn't long before a much larger company had the exclusive rights to distribute in the UK. We are very pleased to be offering it again! And now includes a new seven step solution guide.

About Hawkin's Bazaar
Hawkin's Bazaar has been providing you with unusual gifts, toys and gadgets since 1973. Originally a local toy shop at the Hawk Inn (hence the name), Hawkin's Bazaar now sells things you thought had gone forever and things you never even knew existed. They bring you Pin Art, Morph, Rubik's Cube, Big Trak, Space Hoppers and much more.
Also remembered...

Tippy Tumbles was a battery-operated doll that used to do somersaults and flips. She was so cool for her day (in the 70's). Tippy Tumbles came with a little suitcase which held her batteries and she had short hair. I still have two of them. The adverts were great too.

I've always regarded Rubik's Magic as the best of all the Rubik's puzzles. It's not as difficult as the cube, and the 3-D shapes you can build while searching for the solution are just as much fun as the solution itself. There have been at least four versions. The original was in black as seen above. The second one, the "master" edition as I recall, had a silver background, five rings, and a total of twelve squares. This "master" edition was actually easier to solve than the original since the large open loop was more forgiving than the first. Later I found a version without rings, and each sqare has for color quadrants and a black square planted diagonally in the middle. The object of this one is to build a six sided cube with the corner colors matching. I won't tell you where the extra two squares end up, this one is probably the most difficult of them all. In recent years there was yet another variant of the original, this one with the Simpson's characters featured. I regret not having aquired one when I had the chance.

I think every single one of my friends had one burried under their bed or in an old closet; messed up and "stuck" so no one could figure out how to untangle it. I managed to keep mine for years until my sister finally frelled it up, and I took a pair of sissors to all its wires. Definitely one of the best 80s toys I had though. :)

I probably invested my allowance money atleast three different times in the Rubik's Magic because someone always broke it. To this day, I still don't have one. I'll have to change that. I really loved this toy. I didn't get so much into solving it, I just loved all the cool shapes it could make. ^^

I had one of these when I was a kid - loved it. It was more than 10 years since I had seen it when a friend got me one for x-mas (shipped in from the states which was really sweet!). I played with it a bit and now about 3 ears later I am searching for new shapes to make with it. Lif long classic that i imagine will be providing me with entertainment for many years to come (even if there are a few gaps here and there). :-)

Bram, I also regret not getting a Simpsons one when I had the chance. You can't find any form of Rubik's Magic here now for love or money.

not unlike the cube but a fold out puzzle with coloured circles printed on it that you had to bend and twist to make the circles into different shapes, you could also bend it into a box with a lid, and make it snap like a camera flash. if it got twisted up it was called a 'fix' and there were only certain kids at school who knew how to free it. brilliant!

I just got bored of this when I had one as a child in the 80's

I had one of these like the one pictured when I was about 6 or 7. I have one now, but its background colour is red. A few years ago I had a Simpson's one but broke it the day I got it!
