The Sooty Show
The Sooty Show :
The Sooty Show starred none other than the bear himself - Sooty! Sooty and his friends Sweep and Soo all lived together with their human friend Matthew (or if you're really old, Harry).
Harry Corbett first introduced Sooty to the nation in the 1950s but in the 1970s his son Matthew took over the show.
Sooty was a hit with most children and has been an enduring success for over 40 years.
Trivia: Harry H Corbett the actor who played Harold in Steptoe and Son added the extra H to avoid confusion with Sooty's creator.

Sitting watching The Sooty Show on a black and white tele in the 50s. I thought it was a wonderful show, and believed that it was quite normal for them all to live together with Harry.

I used to love the Sooty Show as a young boy, and it's unfortunate that Matthew Corbett died.

My seven - year - old cousin and my ten - year - old brother lloved the Sooty Show - as I did as a young boy - and we were all very saddened that Matt Corbett had died after being unfit with cancer.

It is a pity that Matthew Corbett fell out with his dad when he took over the programme because the Matthew Corbett scripts of the 70s and 80s were by far the best. Matthew Corbett wrote many grown up scripts too and the more adult perspective and maturity can often be seen in the gags. And guests such as comic Mike Read or the drummer from Iron Maiden helped keep older viewers at the screen.
